Begin Your Academic Journey with a Globally Accredited Institution

Midland University of Michigan fosters a forward-thinking, student-centric environment designed for learners passionate about achieving academic and professional success.

One of the key components of our international recognition includes compliance with the Hague Apostille Convention, officially titled The Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. This treaty, established by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and signed by nearly 100 nations including Australia, simplifies the process of authenticating official documents for international use.

Documents covered under this Convention include:

  • Court-issued documents and those from court officers (e.g., prosecutors, clerks, and bailiffs)
  • Government-issued administrative records
  • Notarial documents
  • Official certificates on privately signed documents (e.g., registration confirmations or authentication of existence)

Under this Convention, documents don’t require further legalization from foreign embassies. Instead, authenticated documents can be submitted to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), which verifies the notary signature and attaches an Apostille—an official certification confirming authenticity.

Regional Accreditation vs. National Accreditation

Public and private universities and colleges that offer a wide range of programs typically hold regional accreditation. To receive regional accreditation, a university must pass a peer review by faculty and administrators from similar institutions.

Another type of accreditation, national accreditation, is provided by accrediting agencies that are generally single-purpose, narrow in scope, or vocational in nature. Large public colleges and universities do not typically hold national accreditation, though they may have individual programs that are nationally accredited. Midland University is proud to hold both regional and national accreditation.

The Apostille Certification, provided by the Secretary of State, verifies the legitimacy of educational documents for international use. This credential is acknowledged by all 117 member countries of the Hague Convention and is a mandatory step for recognition across U.S. states and partner nations.

Midland University of Michigan also ensures documentation is validated through embassy legalization or consular certification where applicable, offering reassurance to both domestic and international students seeking globally respected qualifications.
